Android 4.2 malware scanner falls short

Google's latest release , the android 4.2 malware scanner for the jelly-bean mobile operating system falls short of the expectations as the new Google Application Verification Leaves a lot to be desired.

Researchers at North Carolina State University tested android 4.2 malware only to find it detecting about 193 samples of the total 1260 malware and infected app samples. The malware scanner offered a very low detection rate of over 15.32% compared to the other android AV products which gave 50-100% outcome, with most of them capable of a mere 90% detection rate.

Google reasons out the cause of this slope in the detection rate to the fact that the VirusTotal scanner has not been integrated into this standalone device and that the device would perform better with it.
